Kobestarr’s Monthly Playlist: September 2010
Yes it’s that time of the month folks! No not THAT time of the month, I’m a bloke! It’s time for a brand spanking new Monthly Playlist. Woo!!! Click on any of the images and it'll take you to the list -- FOR FREE!!!
For some reason this month I have got American TV themes in my brain and that helps to explain a good proportion of the choices with the majority coming from the HBO stable. The tunes that fall into this category in this months playlist are the Blind Boys of Alabama version of “Way Down in the Hole” off of The Wire Series 1, “Woke up this Morning” by Alabama 3 off of “The Sopranos”, “Superhero” by Jane’s Addiction from “Entourage” and “I Need a Dollar” by Aloe Blacc off of new HBO series “How to Make it in America”.
I am yet to watch an episode of “How to Make it in America” but I know its going to be awesome. HBO cannot make a bad programme. Look at their back catalogue “The Larry Sanders Show”, “The Wire”, “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, “Six Feet Under”, “The Sopranos”, “Deadwood”, “True Blood”, “Entourage”, “Flight of the Conchords” and “Sex and the City”. That’s a CRAZY list right there. And yes I’m actually one of the few blokes that openly like SATC…so ner!
The none HBO TV themes come in the form of Joe Cockers version of The Beatles “With a Little Help from my Friends” off of “The Wonder Years” (did anyone else fancy the arse off Winnie btw? That reminds me I should type her real name – Danica Mckellar – I believe into Google images to see how she has blossomed) and “Superman” by Lazlo Bane from “Scrubs”.
OK so the none theme tune tracks? Well I have talked about Lissie and Best Coast recently so here is a chance to listen to another one of their tracks. In line with the folky-ness of Lissie I have popped in “Little Lion Man” by Mumford and Sons in acknowledgement of a few things that I have fucked up recently!
Emily King is a preview tune to my final post in the Women’s season that I have going on here. It also features help from my man Lupe Fiasco – that is never a bad thing!
Two songs on the playlist “Torn on the Platform” by Jack Penate and “Float On” by Modest Mouse are two random tunes that I heard whilst out and about and just thought “DAYUM!!! I forgot about that tune!” Mark Ronson’s “Bang Bang Bang” and “Tenderoni” by Kele are recent beat driven tunes that you get down your ear holes. Breakestra is a big band that you should listen to, I was supposed to see them last week with Chali 2na and am gutted that they cancelled. Dammit
In another HBO nod is the awesome Flight of the Conchords, which I just recently found on here as I was trying to learn this song “Most Beatiful Girl [In the Room]” to potentially play at my friends wedding. I don’t think its gonna happen the chords are easy but I keep arsing it up. Ill just have to be a bedroom strummer – ooh err missus – on this one for the moment.
The final track is “D.O.A” by Jay Z is something that I’m trying to learn on guitar and is also a well timed jab to the sham of a mockery of a sham that is the Auto-tune fiasco that is kicking about on X-Factor at the moment.
