Kobestarr’s Monthly Playlist: November 2010
GUYS!!!
It's been soooo long, i'm sorry! How have you been?? My posting on here has been a mighty bit erratic over the past couple of months mainly due to the fact that I left my job of the past five and a bit years and relocated to Norway! Mental Crazy!
I'm in Norways second City of Bergen and man! This place is beautiful! It may come as no surprise to that the main focus of this months playlist is music from Norwegian and Scandinavian (cheating slightly I know) artists. Click on any of the links or pictures and you will be taken straight there. As well as working in Norwayland I been mad busy in the past couple of months getting to know a wicked Uni Bod again, watching all three Seasons of "Breaking Bad",
learning Portuguese, waiting to start learning Norwegianese, playing a mega load of Capoeira, in physio, on planes, getting to grips with Apple computers, enjoying the view from my office window and marveling at how insanely active 99% of these vikings are.
This last statement is no exaggeration. These guys all have a trillion hobbies and gym memberships and make me feel kinda pathetic sometimes.
I was talking to one dude in the first week i was here about triathlons and the conversation went a little like this
Kobestarr: (bragging a little)…yeah so i did a short triathlon last year, me and my friend "Uncle June" have entered the London Triathlon for next year we have a bet on to make it more interesting.
Viking: Ohh coool i did my first triathlons last year as well. Three in fact! They were really cool.
K*:Yeah im really looking forward to the step up to the next level. How far were yours?
V:I did two Olympic triathlons as a warm up and then did an Ironman. What about you?
K*:(dumbfounded)…Err it doesn’t matter…..(makes fake phone noise and picks phone out of pocket). Hi Mum! …(scuttles off embarrassed).
SO….. kicking the playlist off is the magnificent A-Ha and Take on Me. This is one of my favourite ever videos of all time and in spite of being made in the 80’s still looks pretty darn good. The other Norsk artists included on this months playlist are the likes of Casiokids, Kings of Convenience and Royksopp (who all come from Bergen), Ida Maria, Datarock, Madcon and Aqua (don’t worry – its not Barbie Girl!). I also took this opportunity to pop a bit of Bjork in the mix as well. Note: she is Icelandic not Norwegian!
The next track i’d really like to point out is my hands down favourite of the month and is “DLZ” from TV on the Radio taken from their album “Dear Science”. I have been listening to it at least 5 times a day for the past few weeks. This song over 2 years old and I have enjoyed the album since its release so it’s by no means new but recently came to light due to my addiction to American TV series “Breaking Bad”. The song features in a
subtle but sinister scene at the end of an episode in Season 2 in a series that tells of a High School Chemistry Teacher with cancer that turns to “cooking” Crystal Meth to help pay for his treatment and for the security of his family should he die. Massive program…CHECK IT!
The rest of the big tunes include Slades Merry Xmas Everybody, is it too early for xmas tunes? Who cares? IT’S CHRIIIIIIISSSSSTMAAAAAASSSSSSSSSS!!! Ahem!
So what have I actually been listening to in the past few weeks? I seem to have been in a Grimey/souly and dubstepy vibe perhap kicked off by “Wake Up Everybody” by John Legend and the Roots, which was suggested to me by long term Kobestarr fan and commenter Sangue. This has natural links the mighty Jay Electronica and with the explicit version of Cee-Lo Green megahit “Fuck You”. Please go and see the video for this, it is piss funny! So the Grimey dub steppers here I have popped in Wiley Ft Daniel Merriweather, Dubstep’s first super group Magnetic Man and Chase and Status ft Plan B with “End Credits”
Have fun chieftans and i’ll see you very soon! I promise! MERRY XMAS!

I love Royksopp. Although not enough to go and look up how to put dots over my letters.
