Forget what you know about M.I.A off of "Paper Planes" fame and check out this video for "Born Free". Be warned – if you have a nervous disposition and object to scenes of ethnic cleansing and war imagery this is not for you. Probably best not play this at work unless you want people to think that there is something wrong with you!
This is powerful evocative viewing and is also mega disgusting in places…if you have 10mins please do have a gander. Stop discrimination against ginger people!
I love it when you hear a tune and it doesn't make an impact until you see the video. "Born Free" is one of those tune/video combinations. No way near as immediate as her chart flyer Paper Planes – that featured heavily in 2008/2009 not least because of its appearances in Slumdog Millionaire and Pineapple Express. Her next album "MAYA" is due out on 13th July which feature the lead single "XXXO" – That is an absolute cracker. Look out for it!
